When You Receive A Jury Summons
Jurors are randomly selected from all registered voters, licensed drivers, or state identification card holders residing in Watonwan County. Jurors in Watonwan County serve for 10 days or four months, whichever comes first.
Jury Duty Defined
Jury duty is defined as reporting to the court as summoned. If you are never summoned for jury duty, then at the end of four months your obligation ends. Qualified residents are required to serve when summoned. An individual is qualified to serve as a juror if they meet the following criteria:
- A citizen of the United States of America
- At least 18 years old
- Communicates in English
- Does not have a physical or mental disability that would affect their ability to serve on a jury
- Have not been on jury duty anywhere in Minnesota within the past two years
- If convicted of a felony, they have completed probation / parole / supervised release
- Is not a judge in the Judicial Branch
- Resides in Watonwan County
If an individual is age 70 or over, they can elect not to serve.
