Watonwan County Teen Court began in 2000 and is possible through the support of the following: Minnesota Department of Public Safety, YIPA, Watonwan County Court Services, the cities of Madelia, St. James, and Butterfield, as well as the generous donations from local service groups as well as private citizens.
There are currently 56 jurors trained to hear first time nonviolent juvenile offender cases. Teen jurors range in grades from eighth to twelfth from all over Watonwan County. They are trained to ask the child and parents questions about the offense and determine a fair sentence.
