What is a Windbreak?
Windbreaks or shelterbelts (including living snow fences) are single or multiple rows of trees or shrubs in linear configurations.
Windbreaks have many purposes such as:
- Reduce soil erosion from wind
- Protect plants from wind related damage
- Protect structures, animals, and people from damaging winds.
- Manage snow distribution
- Improve air quality
- Enhance wildlife habitat
- Reduce energy used in the heating and cooling of structures
